ACT Winona

Community Impact

Our team will point to raising awareness and transforming attitudes about Alzheimer’s in Winona as we implement two actions that arose from our community assessment work:

  • Foster awareness of dementia by having a central area as a resource hub
  • Support community members who are impacted by dementia by providing “survival kits” with information and fun items

About Our ACT Community

The formation of the ACT Winona action team began in July 2016, and we educated the community about becoming dementia friendly through an event attended by more than 100 people. We recruited university students from Winona State and St. Mary’s to conduct the cross-sector community assessment interviews; 284 questionnaires were documented and then analyzed by a Public Health evaluation class. A May 2017 community event helped us determine action goals to pursue going forward.

Snapshot of Activities (in 2017)

  • Distribute “survival kits” to agencies that serve people living with memory loss and their care partners
